Episode 2: Gouache II
In episode 2, we continue to explore using gouache. I give more info about brands used and about how poor photo references can force us into making better decisions about what we want to say in our paintings. In this painting as in the first, I made a square photo from a horizontal reference.
Marsh scenes are familiar to me, and I have found them to be a helpful series subject when I’m testing the waters for something new. Sometimes the new thing is recording an art show and sometimes it’s trying a different color palette or art materials.
For my supply list and any other references made during the show, please see the resources page. Thanks for tuning in! -Kim

Originals and prints of paintings created during the show are available. Thank you for your support!
As with the painting in the first episode, this original gouache piece was created during “Kim’s Art Show, Episode 2” and measures 8×8” on a 11×14” beige Stonehenge archival rag paper. The matte finish of the gouache is rich and deep compared to the felt-like texture of the paper surface.
This marsh is characteristically more colorful, with the wildflowers goldenrod and joe pye weed on bright display. Water winds through it, again moving the viewer through the artwork.
The painting is unframed, allowing for you to design framing to your taste. Local pick up is available for those near Norfolk, MA.
