“Sunlit Cedars” 11×14” original pastel, painted on sanded archival card, this is a warm late spring afternoon at a favorite spot near my home. Those who know my work likely know this scene, as I paint it in every medium, size, and time of day and year, akin to a meditation.

As artists, we owe it to our painting viewers to say something more about the subject we’re painting than exactly what is seen — and in this piece it’s the vibrance of color notes after days of gray rain that made the colors sing! I was shocked at the colors I selected to use (but also delighted!!)
